Safeguarding

Our Commitment
School of Skill is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child and young person we work with. Every member of our team shares this responsibility, and the safety and wellbeing of young people always comes before any other consideration.
Safer Recruitment
All coaches and staff who work directly with children and young people are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before they begin working with us. References are taken up for all new coaches, and no coach works unsupervised with young people until these checks are complete.
Training and Awareness
Our coaching team completes safeguarding training appropriate to their role, covering how to recognise signs of harm, how to respond to a disclosure, and how to raise a concern. We keep this training up to date and review our practice regularly.
Codes of Conduct
- Sessions are planned and delivered to appropriate ratios for the age and needs of the group.
- Coaches maintain professional boundaries with players and parents at all times.
- Any physical contact during coaching is limited to what is necessary for demonstrating technique or ensuring safety, and is always appropriate to the setting.
- Photography and video of sessions is only used with parental consent, in line with our privacy policy.

Working With Schools and Settings
When delivering programmes in schools, PRUs or other education settings, School of Skill follows the host organisation's own safeguarding policy in addition to our own, and works closely with the designated safeguarding lead at each setting.
Review
This safeguarding policy is reviewed annually and updated as needed to reflect current best practice and statutory guidance.
